My Peugeot 406 estate let me down badly last year. It started with central locking misbehaviour, then ABS failure lights, then it just shut down on the drive, looked like ECU failure. Much internet searching suggested water under the drivers carpet! Yes a blocked drain on the door sill caused all that!
So what to replace my workhorse with. The caravan was never getting towed anywhere because it was too much effort to clean it up and move it. We shift about 5 tonnes of logs a year and transport a scythe mower several times a year using a trailer. I saw several "moto cross" vans on ebay which featured a dirty area for the bike and a compact caravan area which were nearly suited to what I wanted. Many were based on Mercedes Sprinter vans and I found that there is a fairly steady supply of these ex-Police vans which have heating lighting, insulation windows and lots of seats, plus a prison cell, plates on top where there have been blue lights and lots of loose ends where wiring has been chopped as they were de-commissioned. But they have a good service history.
Well, I waited, watched, I did a viewing and then finally bid to win my van.
This blog is intended to document the progress of converting that van which will help me see what I am doing, and remember what I have done, and may help others on a similar path.
